LEAGUE OF MOTHERS
Close Contact With N.C.W.
To keep branches of the League of Mothers in close contact with the work of the National Council of Women, the league’s delegation to council meetings was increased to five at the annual meeting of the Canterbury Provincial Committee of the League of Mothers yesterday. Mrs W H. Harvey, the provincial president, made special reference in her opening address to the appointment as Governor-General of Brigadier Bernard Fergusson. who is a son of the New Zealand founder of the League of Mothers. Lady Alice Fergusson. Mrs Harvey expressed the hope that the league’s work and growth would be a fitting tribute to Lady Alice Fergusson. who founded the league 36 years ago
The three-day Dominion council meeting of the League of Mothers will be held in September. The Canterbury province will be host to visiting delegates.
Officers elected were: Provincial president. Mrs W H. Harvey; immediate past president. Mrs D G McFadden; secretary. Mrs R. W. Shipley: treasurer. Mrs A. Helm: supply secretary. Mrs J. F Heyward: magazine secretary. Mrs R R. Sangster: magazine correspondent, Mrs E. C Law; delegates to the National Council of Women. Mesdames W. H. Harvey. D G McFadden, H. C. L Pruden. G. M. Martin and R. W Shipley; delegate to Society for the Protection of Home and Family. Mrs W. H Harvey; organiser for South Canterbury, Mrs R. E Zwimpfer
