Educationists Prepare

Fifteen education experts met at U.N.E.S.C.O. headquarters to formulate plans for the eradication of mass illiteracy. They included the director of the Senegalese Ministry of Youth and Sport (Mr Ibrahim Ba), the specialist in fundamental and literacy education in the United States Office of Education (Mr Edward Brice). and the director of the South Pacific Commission Literature Bureau of Australia, Mr Bruce Roberts.

They elected the social education adviser of the Indian Ministry of Education (Mr A. R. Desphande) as president of their committee. The committee will prepare a 10-year plan of adult literacy development that is educationally sound, financially practical, and socially and administratively manageable, U.N.E.S.C.O. said. Their recommendations will be submitted to the U.N.E.S.C.O. general conference next Novem'beir. If approved, they will be passed to the United Nations Economic and Social Council and the General Assembly for final ratification.
