GOLF Thames-Bay Of Plenty Wins Grace Tourney

ROTORUA. June 15.

Thames Valley-Bay of Plenty is the 1962 North Island Russell Grace women's golf representative. Today, on the Arikikapakapa Links, Rotorua, the team caused a minor sensation by beating ManawatuWanganui at the eighteenth 4J matches to IJ. This gave it a half-point victory over Auckland Auckland scooped the pool in the final round, winning all six matches against Northland. Taranaki, which, in the sixth round had lost all its matches against Thames Val-ley-Bay of Plenty, avenged its defeat with a 3J to 2J win in the final round over last year’s winner, Hawke’s BayPoverty Bay. Auckland, with the best chance of winning after the fifth round, ran into trouble against Waikato-King Coun-

try in the sixth, Auckland struggled home the winner by 34 matches to 2|, Misses N. White and A. Laing (Auckland) both losing to Mesdames H. McDiarmid and B. Middleton. Surprise Win

Thames Valley-Bay of Plenty’s 6-0 win over Taranaki in the sixth round surprised even its most ardent supporters. The end of this round saw Thames ValleyBay of Plenty in front by a slender point from Manawa-tu-Wanganui. with Auckland third another point away. The match of the tournament started in warm weather and sunshine.

The form players. Miss U Wickham (Thames-Bay of Plenty) and Mrs J. Mangan, fought out a thrilling match. Thames Valley - Bay of Plenty will meet South Canterbury, the South Island champion, in the final at a venue to be decided.
