B. Chapman, a 27-year-old Hertfordshire businessman and R. Foster, a 20-year-old Bradford and district champion, took the honours in the British amateur golf championship yesterday when they both eliminated fancied seeded players. Chapman beat J. Carr (Dublin), three times winner and favourite, by 2 and 1 Foster, the “discovery of the season.” beat the last surviving seeded player, J. Hayes, the 19-year-old South African champion, 4 and 3. The defeat of Hayes removed one serious overseas threat, but another looms in the American R Davies, a 31-year-old real estate dealer from Pasadena, who is crushing all opposition Davies strolled through his two matches today to reach the quarter-final.
