Common Market

Sir, —Apart from mistakes which Britain has made, her record down the ages provides ample evidence of a striving to adhere to moral principles. Would Mr Wheeler have a look at her impact on alleviating distress and injustice, her leadership in nursing, religion, youth movements, uplift societies, law-making? We are required as individuals or nations, to take a stand somewhere, see where we are heading, and define our values. To place our allegiance either on things alone, or on things plus principles. In the final analysis, and despite all scientific achievement, emphasis on the former could lead to accumulation of expendable wealth, but bankruptcy in the things which ultimately matter. Your correspondent should lift his sights for he is fortunate that, in this uneasy age, he lives within the circle of people who will see that both principles and things are considered in the complex problem of the Common Market. —Yours, etc, PHOENIX. June 15, 1962.

The world Is divided Into people who do things and people who get the credit. Try if you can, to belong to the first class. There's far less competition.— Dwight Morrow.
