Children In Hospital

Sir, —I would Like to pay an overdue tribute to all those whose whole-hearted efforts have borne fruit in the successful functioning of extended hours of daily visiting in the children’s ward at the Public Hospital. How many well-served parents today remember 1953 and onwards, when the impassioned struggle against prolonged separation of children from their parents made news in your sympathetic paper? What articles, letters, statements and editorials were printed then! What a mix-up of cold fact, hot emotions, and even bullying! The campaign for a vision succeeded, but when the hospital staff really rolled up their sleeves and. slowly but surely, made that vision work, we simply took it for granted. And now come proposals for the new pediatric unit at Princess Margaret Hospital which seem to echo back the voice of the distinguished Professor T. Stapleton. We are grateful.—Yours, etc., G.A. June 8, 1962.
