Television Sets
Sir, —Little wonder that Dr. Sutch baulked at the blunt question put to him on locally-made television sets Disregarding the old familiar “gags” about Hong Kong rubbish made by slave labour, etc., I can assert with complete confidence that millions of high-quality sets are being produced in the efficient plants of Japan at prices that make our producers look like first cousin to the late Ned Kelly. It may be a digression. but all should be aware of the huge purchases which Japan is making in Australia. We in New Zealand have a like opportunity to trade. It is fine and dandy to sell our wool and meat to the Japanese, but take their products in return ? Why, that would wreck our economy! While we stand shivering the “ Aussie*’' are “hopping in for their chop." —Yours, etc., GOOD LUCK TO THEM. June 8. 1962.
