GIRL GUIDE DIPLOMAS

Award To Cook Islanders

The first training diplomas to be issued by the New Zealand Girl Guides’ Association in the islands have been awarded to two Cook Island women. They are Miss Tepaeru Tereora and Mrs Ta Upu Pere, who is the wife of the youth director for the London Missionary Society. Miss Tereora, together with Miss Naomi Iro and Mrs Mary Paitai were given three months’ leave by the Education Department in the Cook Islands to take an intensive course in leadership training with the New Zealand association. The four women have attended a number of refresher courses in addition to observing the running of many New Zealand guide companies.

They will return to Rarotonga next week as qualified leader trainers. Miss Iro and Mrs Paitai were awarded training certificates.
