MOTOR RACING SEASON
Dates Of NX Fixtures
The Lady Wigram international trophy race will be held next year on January 19, the Motor Racing Club has been advised. The sporting commission of the International Automobile Federation has approved applications filed by the Association of New Zealand Car, Club* for the dates of the major fixtures of the next New Zealand motor racing season The fixtures will come up for ratification before delegates to the annual conference of the A.N.Z.C.C., which will be held in August. The New Zealand Grand Prix, next season at Pukekohe, has been set down for January 5, the international meeting at Levin for January 12, Wigram for January 19. and the Teretonga International Trophy at Invercargill for January 26.
The Dunedin Festival Road Race Committee has applied to the A.N.Z.C.C. to hold the annual “round-the-houses” race on February 2. and the South Canterbury Car Club, sponsors of the Waimate 50. have applied to hold that event on February 9. Both these are national events, and do not require the sanction of the F.I.A. However, as they are run on public roads, the permission
of local authorities is required'. Promoters of motor races in the South Island are meeting in Dunedin soon to discuss policy for the coming season. Among the items which will come under discussion is the question of payments to New Zealand drivers for their appearances at meetings in the South Island.
