Motor-cycle Racing N.Z. RIDER KILLED

Isle Of Man Crash (N.Z PA -Reular—Copyng M ) DOUGLAS (Isle o< Man). June 6. Colin Meehan, a 28-yt*r-o!d New Zealander. was killed when he crashed in the second lap of the 350 c.c. race at the Tounot Trophy motoc-cycle meeting on the Isle of Man today. An Australian. Tom Phillis. was killed in the Junior TT. race. al«o in the second lap. i Meehan, ot Fox street. Ngaio, Wellington, crashed on a difficult S bend at Union Mills, on the outskirts of Douglas, the principal town, and was killed instantly. Phillis, aged 28. of Sydney, had averaged 99.22 miles on hour on the first lap of the race when he crashed on a fast serie, of bends in the second lap. He died on the way to hoopital. Meehan crashed after a first lap average speed of 91.17 mp.h. He was riding an A-J.S. in his first international race. He was a member of the official New Zealand AutoCycle Union team, and had had some success in club races in New Zealand and was entered for the senior T.T. race on Friday.
