Sir Alfred Carroll is leader of the Ngati-Kahunguna tribe and one of the outstanding leaders of the Maori people H« is a nephe-w of Sir James Carroll He was born In 1890 and served in the First World War. He took an active part in the rehabilitation of Maori servicemen and in local government administration. Sir Robert Kerridge, aged 60, was bom in Christchurch and received his education a* the Christchurch Boys’ High School before moving with his family to Gisborne in 1917 He had experience in the transport and newspaper industries and ran his own commercial college before acquiring a theatre in 1920 Later he acquired a controlling interest in other theatres and now heads a company which directs 130 theatres in New Zealand. He is a director of 54 companies He has been a generous donor to many charities, and made a gift of £50.000 to the Auckland City Mission. Mr Fraser has been Dominion president of the New Zealand Returned Services’ Association since 1954 He served in the 2nd N Z E F . was a prisoner of war. and rose to the rank of lieuten-ant-colonel Mr Shanahan has been Deputy-Secretary of External Affairs since 1943. He served as Commissioner for New

Zealand in South-east Asia from 1955 to 1957 and as Ambassador to Thailand Later h was High Commissioner for New Zealand in Malaya. High Commissioner in Canada, and permanent representative to the United Nations from 1958 to last year. Mr Adams, a Christchurch businessman, has given long service to the Cholmondeley Children’s Home, the Crippled Children Society. and the British Empire Cancer Campaign Society. He is a former city councillor. Mr Smith has been senior instructor in agriculture in Rangiora for the Departmen* of Agriculture since 1940 and is a recognised authority on farming in North Canterbury Mr Newsome showed courage during the fire which destroyed the Hotel Metropole, Akaroa. on January 3 He roused the occupants, helped several persons to escape and prevented a woman from going back into the burning hotel. Commander McKenzie was educated at St. Andrew’s College and joined the Navy as a cadet in 1941 He now commands H M N.Z.S Otago Flight Lieutenant Duffin commands the non-commis-sioned officers’ school at Wigram. Flight Lieutenant Gordon is the station adjutant of the RJJ.Z.A.F. station. Wigram.
