FERRYBOAT OFF COURSE

May 23 A ferryboat, the Toroa. thrown off-course by the powerful wash of the liner Canberra's berthing jets, careered across the ferry basin at Auckland this morning and crashed into the ferry terminal. Half a dozen windows in the building were smashed Only quick action by an American yachtsman, Mr Floyd Christenson, saved his 40ft yacht Marinero frm\ being crushed by the ferry, which was carrying passengers. The yacht was berthed in an unused part of the ferry basin. Mr Christenson said he was having breakfast when he felt the yacht bump against the wharf. He dfved for the stern, cast off the mooring there and braced himaelf against the ferry's side to move the yacht forward. Just as the ferry bumped against the yacht’s item it glanced against a wharf pile and careered off, Anally striking the wharf and building. The Marinero had a similar experience in Papeete, Mr Christenson said.
