Fewer Sheep In World

The total number of woolled sheep in the world in 1960-61 was estimated by the Internationa) Wco] Textile Organisation today at 913 000.000. which is less than 1 per cent below the previous season's record total It was the first time since 1916 that numbers had shown a reduction Of the total. 283.000 000. onearty one-third, were in Commonweal'h countries (excluding Souflh Africa), while numbers in the ChineseSoviet bloc were estimated at 235.000.000.
Compared with the immediate post-war averages, the Soviet Union, where numbers have doubled, showed the greatest increase, the organisation said Increases in Australia and New Zealand had also been considerably higher than in the world as a whole.
