£15,000 WIN IN SYDNEY
Victorians’ Plunges
A group of Victorian punters won an estimated £15,000 in bets from bookmakers at Harold Park last Friday. The punters backed the Victorian horses, Consequently and Flying Adioa, both of which won decisively. Consequently, backed from 5 to 2 to 5 to 4 on, won the Trotters’ Handicap by six lengths. Two races later the Victorians played up their winnings on Flying Adios, which was backed from 5 to 1 to 5 to 2. Flying Adios, after being clear by 15 lengths in the middle stages, won hard held by seven lengths in the Second Qualifying Stakes. The Victorian horses, which had shown fine form on country courses in their home State, were having their first starts at Harold Park.
A section of the crowd demonstrated against the Sydney drivers after Flying Adios had won. They claimed the local drivers had allowed the Victorian horse to gain an unbeatable advantage in the middle stages.
