New Office Block At Islington

Two-storey offices, costing about £22.000. have been built for British Pavements (Canterbury), Ltd., in Halswell Junction road, Islington. The building will provide office accommodation for company executives and clerical staff, a general office with a public counter, staff facilities, and heating and other services. The photograph shows the building from Hatewell Junction road,. It was built between two other buildings of different heights. The glassed entrance at the right is also the stairwell and was designed by the architect to provide a break between the plastered and wooden building and the different style of the new building. ■

The front of the building is set back 7ft from the road boundary. The main office of the new building is of reinforced concrete frame construction with concrete blocks at the ends. There are steel trusses in the roof wfaile the roofing is of galvanised iron. The slabs abwe and below the windows are of precast concrete faced with pebbles over the entire surface. The ceilings are mostly of acoustic tiles. Most of the timber-framed partitions are of a manufactured board. The solid 'interior partitions are of concrete blocks. Mr D. A. Cowey was the architect. and Moore Construction (Christchurch), Ltd., the builder.
