SMOOTH-DRYING COTTONS
Effects Of British Invention The drip-dry era is ending. That is the significance of the announcement of an invention in the field of easycare fabrics. The first products of the invention will be cottons, which have exceptional smooth-drying properties regardless of the washing procedure. The basis of the invention is a new chemical developed in the Tootal research laboratories in Manchester. For the technically minded, the new reagent is a sodium sulphatoethyl sulphonium compound. Using the new reagent, cottons can be produced which, even under the most exacting conditions of launderingusing mechanical W’ashers, power wringers and spin dryers—have the power to smooth themselves so they dry ready for wear without any need for ironing. Cottons with this highly efficient dry-smooth property can. at the same time and without difficulty, be made crease-resisting during wear. The process is being patented throughout the world by the manufacturing firm and wall be offered under licence to other companies in the textile industry.
