Hamner Baths

Sir,—l, for one, take exception to a remark made by Mr A R. Blank: “I wouldn’t swim with that crowd there. It can't be healthy with all those fellows from the outback.” I would point out that at holiday times local residents prefer not to go to the pools because they are so overcrowded with visitors, mostly from Christchurch. As far as "those fellows, from the outback” are concerned, these lads are living a healthy life in the high country, away from city smoke and smog, with adequate bathing and washing facilities. Even if they did frequent the pools at holiday time, there would be no contamination, as suggested by Mr Blank’s remarks.—Yours, etc., HANMER SPRINGS LOCAL. May 8, 1962.
