STARTING GATE
Trials Next Week
The starting gate, which is to be used to start five races at the Canterbury ParK Trotting Club's meeting on May 26, has been completed and it will have Its first trials with horses next Monday morning at Addington. The gate will be available to owners and trainers between 9 a.m and 11 a.m. The gate will also be used to start races at trials to be run by the Canterbury Trotting Owners’ and Breeders’ Association at Addington on Thursday, May 47. It will be available again on Monday, May 21, for horses engaged at the Canterbury Park meeting. The gate will be driven by Mr I- Stevenson, who win control both the speed of the gate and the drawing in of the arms.
Mr Stevenson will take his instructions from the starter Mr R. Carter
The arms will be drawn in or extended by compressed air. The gate will carry two bottles of compressed air, each one being capable of starting 12 races. The arms of the gate will extend about 44 feet at Addington, but provision has b?en made tor them to be extended to 52 feet if the equipment is to be used on bigger courses.
