TROTTING Tactile Should Create New Record At Oamaru
The unbeaten Wyndham colt, Tactile, is expected to create a new record-winning sequence for a two-year-old when he contests the Oamaru Juvenile Stakes, the feature event at the Oamaru Trotting Club’s winter meeting tomorrow. Tactile at present shares the record of six wins with Blue, which was unbeaten at two years in the 1957-58 season. Lordship also won six races last season, but he was beaten on three occasions. However, Lordship still holds the stake-winning record of £3745, which Tactile will not better unless he wins the New Zealand Sapling Stakes at Ashburton next month.
Tactile will have to be a real champion to win as he has drawn the second line. He will need plenty of Luck to secure a dear run over the first furlong. However, he is such a grand colt that unless he receives a severe check, he should still win
Friendly John, which has drawn wide at No. 14, could be the hardest for Tactile to beat. Friendly John was within two lengths of Tactile in the New Zealand Welcome Stakes at Addington last month at his most recent start. The Johnny Globe colt has shown considerable
promise and it will be surprising if he fails to make a bold showing.
Admiral and Jojabrod will form a useful bracket. Jojabrod made tip a lot of ground for fourth in the New Zealand Welcome Stakes and he has shown to advantage at trials since then.
Admiral, by Stormyway from Trixie Milne, has been
impressive at trials and if he reproduces his best form, he will have prospects Earl Globe, another of the representatives of Johnny Globe in the race, weakened a little to finish sixth in the New Zealand Welcome Stakes He is usually a reliable beginner and he should be close to the lead all the way Landlord, a winner at Methven, disappointed at Addington He is a likely type of pacer and from a favourable barrier position he should be hard to beat. He will probably be driven by M Holmes.
Siva has again drawn the second line. He has met trouble in his . last two starts so those failures can be overlooked. He has sufficient ability to make a bold showing. Medico. Vantage and Light
Silk should do best of the remainder. The double will be run on the R. A. McDowell Memorial Handicap and the C- L. Ayson Handicap. Fair weather is forecast and the track is expected to be in good order.
