Auckland Boats In First Six Places

(N.Z. Press Association) GISBORNE, April 20. Six Auckland boats led the field of 45 home in the first of five races of the national Cherub class yachting championships which began at Gisborne today.. The race was sailed in perfect weather with a variable light south-easterly. Wellington’s defending champion, Gazelle, which won a seven-mile invitation race earlier, failed to gain a place in the first six.

The outstanding performance was Otahuhu’s Toledo which advanced from eighth to the head of the field only to be beaten in the run to the finishing line. The race was over a triangular course of nine miles Results:—
