£23,000 Sewerage Scheme Proposed For Halswell
A £23.002 scheme for sewerage in the Cunningham subdivision has been offered to the Halswell County Council by the owner. Mr A. J. Cunningham. Mr Cunningham would lend the council £5789 at interest for its share of the cost, said a letter to Thursday's meeting of the council.
‘This is the first of several schemes that I know of coming to the council,” said Cr. G. Van Asch.
The council will send the scheme to its consulting en-* gineers for consideration. Recently the council was told that the Health Department inspector for the area (Mr R. G. Howes) had refused septic tanks approved by the council. This position would continue until reticulation was completed. But the council's application for a loan for water reticulation was refused by the Local Authorities’ Loans Board. The letter said it was not wise to proceed with development and gamble on the chance of septic tanks being granted. Several schemes were offered. but attention was drawn to one where the council would install a treatment plant to serve the area. It would ensure sewerage for 204 sections, the letter said. An annual sewer rate of £l3 would mean an income of £2652 a year, and £2OOO profit a year to the council. Adoption of the scheme would be a forward move tn development of the county, the letter said.
