REDUNDANT LINES

Disposal Not Yet Settled (From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON, April 20. The disposal of the metal tracks from the branch railway lines recently closed down in Canterbury is still under consideration, and in the meantime they will not be torn up. The General Manager of New Zealand Railways (Mr A. T. Gandell) said it was expected that a decision on the disposal of the lines would be made shortly.

“Certain technical matters have yet to be decided,” Mr Gandell said. The Whitecliffs line was officially closed nearly a month ago. The usual procedure is for tenders to be called for the purchase and removal of redundant lines.
