EASTER ON EGMONT
Summit Stay Planned (N.Z. Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, April 20. Two Palmerston North mountaineers left the Dawson Falls Tourist Lodge, on the southern slopes of Mount Egmont, early this morning with the intention of sleeping in a tent on the summit of Taranaki’s 8260 ft high landmark.
The men, experienced climbers, intend to remain on the summit until Monday before descending. They are Mr T. Nuttall, aged 33. and Mr J. Low. aged 22 In a telephone interview from Palmerston North tonight Mr Nuttall’s wife said her husband was a member of the New Zealand Alpine Club and was fully equipped with warm clothes, food, and climbing gear Mr Low’s mother, Mrs N S. Low, Nash street. Palmerston North, said her son was also well equipped and had gained mountaineering experience in the Southern Alps. He is a member of the Manawatu Tramping Club Snow fell heavily this week for the first time this year on the mountain and in several places is up to 12m deep.
