FEDERATION MEETING

Canterbury’s Move Ignored An attempt by Canterbury to limit representation at a special meeting preliminary to the annual meeting of th* New Zealand Yachting Federation at Wellington next month has been ignored. The special meeting wa* called by the Auckland Provincial Yachting Association to discuss proposals to amend the federation's constitution. Auckland sought to widen representation with th* inclusion of sub-asaoclations at the meeting, "particularly Northland. Bay of Plenty, and Waikato." Fearing that Auckland might use sub-association* to exercise proxies on it* behalf, the Canterbury Yachting Association expressed its disfavour, but was advised by the secretary of the federation (Mr F. Watson) that each metropolitan association—Auckland. Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin—would be entitled to have tour representative* at the special meeting "Auckland ha* (elected four and Wellington ha* dona likewise," wrote Mr Watson, who suggested that both Canterbury and Dunedin should alao select four representatives. Mr Watson said that on matter* which came to a vote onlv the metropolitan member*—one vote each—would be entitled to participate. Th* president of th* Canterbury association Mr W. H Beanland I commented that he did not think extra representation was necessary. He and other club delegate* expressed confidence in the regular delegate to the federation. Mr P. G. Mander. "There does not »eem any purpose In having more delegate*. If your single delegate ha* Instruction* he knows how to vote. With four delegate* you will get the same answer." said Mr M. Holland.

In view of th* multiple refireaentatlon from other centre* t might be an advantage tor Canterbury to widen tt* own representation, said Mr G. S. Mander, srho added that Canterbury had made it* point by insisting that only the four single metropolitan votes aheu.d count on anv matter On the motion of Messrs C. S. Mander and H. England the association appointed Mr Beanlar.fi a* an additional delegate.
