Empire Games MANAGER OF TEAM
MrC. M. Kay Named (N2. Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 17. Mr C. M. Kay, ot Auckland, nominated by the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association. will manage the Empire Games team to Perth this year. The appointment was made at tonight’s meeting of the New Zealand Olympic and British Empire Games Association executive. The unsuccessful candidate was Mr A. J. Donaldson, of Christchurch, the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association’s nominee. Mr Kay, a 36-year-old company director, is a member of the N.Z.A.A.A. council and a former president of the Auckland centre. He represented New Zealand at the 1950 Empire Games at Auckland and is a former national hop, step, and jump champion, Mr R. Shakespeare, of Napier, will be section manager of the swimming contingent to the games. The appointment was confirmed i at tonight's meeting. Mr Shakespeare is the president of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association.
Three Cycling Nominations
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 17. The New Zealand Amateur Cycling Association selectors tonight named three riders for inclusion in their nominations for the Perth Empire Games this year. They are G. F. Wright (Wellington), W. T. Johnston (Waikato), and A. Candy (Waikato). Each is a present national champion but the events in which they will compete at Perth will not be announced till the association’s full nominations are made—after the final road trials in September.
