COMMODORE ROBERTS

Smart Run At Takanini

“The Press" Special Service AUCKLAND, April 17. Commodore Roberts’s gallop at Takanini ‘bis morning brought him into discussions on the Easter Handicap at Ellerslie on Saturday. His six furlongs was far and away the best of toe morning. In preparation for lesser events at the Auckland autumn meeting. Catania, Prince Manu, Servitor and Descabella went oleasingly. Catania’s work was half a mile in quick time and the other three each ran five furlongs. Winnipeg 11, which accompanied Catania, elso shaped nicely and so did Faircourt with Prince Manu. The inside of the No. 1 grass was used, where the ground was soft. Commodore Roberts (Hughes) dealt severely with Jovic (Holland) and Casilda's Pride (Delahunty) over six furlongs in Imin 16 2-ssec. When the pace was cracked on in the early part Commodore Roberts dropped a fair way behind- the other two but in the finish he was travelling strongly, three lengths ahead. When asked for a good gallop, Commodore Roberts hardly ever fails in training, The early rush in the Easter might trouble him but if he weathers it all right he might have a chance. Catania (Hughes), galloping nicely, just led Winnipeg 'II (Holland) and Speedwell (Sturch) at the end of half a mile in 49 3-ssec That was easily the best. Catania is evidently very much henself. There should be a good mile for Her at Ellerslie next week. Prince Manu (Wyatt) and Faircourt (Willetts) kept together while going five furlongs in tain 3sec Descabella (Wyatt) covered five furlongs in Imin 3 3-ssec. So did Servitor (Jury). Whereas Descabella went smoothly, Servitor began very fast and slackened speed considerably near the finish.
