Building Policy
Sir, —When Mr Nordimeyer in. his recent Scottish Hall utterances mentioned the decrease in building permits for Christahurcih the inference is that he is criticising the National Government for not going on building willynilly in an already overhoused district. In St. AJbans, particularly, existing sound houses are being heavily depreciated because new construction commenced or sanctioned by the socialists
is glutting the market. Is the taxpayers’ money to be wasted merely to make business. attractive and simple for ever for master builders who for the last 15 years “never bad it so good?” Far better the National Party’s policy of guaranteeing low - margin loans made for existing sound houses by building societies and insurance offices. This saves unnecessary building, taxes, inflation, and waste of labour and materials. It also employs the people's savings, encourages thrift, and makes good existing houses saleable assets.—Yours, etc., FORWARD WITH NATIONAL. April 12, 1962.
