Council Can’t Produce Its Birth Certificate
(New Zealand Press Association)
INVERCARGILL. April 5.
The Wallace County Council was today asked for a document it could not produce—its birth certificate. The request for the council’s birth certificate came from the district engineer of the Post Office (Mr B. B. Hands).
“Consequent on your participation in the Post Office V.H.F. service,” said the letter, “a request was made for the sighting of a birth’ certificate. In this connexion a perusal of my records shows that this request has not as yet been complied with. “Radio regulation No. 21 refers and is quoted for your information: ‘Transmitting station licences are issued only to British subjects and evidence of nationality must
therefore be produced with the application, usually the birth certificate of the applicant is all that is necessary.' “Under the circumstances I would appreciate if you would treat this matter as urgent and submit as soon as possible your birth certificate or that of a responsible employee who is a British subject.”
