GIRL’S WORK FOR CHURCH
Entry To Order
Planned
The newest candidate for the Methodist Order of St. Stephen in Christchurch is a young office worker, Miss Kathleen Dryden, aged 19, of Waiwhetu, Lower Hutt. ' Since January, Miss Dryden has been sharing general staff duties at the South Island Methodist Children’s Home in Harewood road and teaching and office work for the Papanui Methodist Church.
Formerly an officer in the Girls’ Life Brigade movement and member of local church youth groups in her home district, Miss Dryden is now continuing these interests in addition to Sunday School teaching and Bible class activities in Christchurch. She is also assisting with Bible-in-schools classes at two primary schools in the area and with parish visiting, Bible class camps and other youth activities. After completing her term of candidateship at the end of this year, Miss Dryden will apply for entrance into the Order of St. Stephen, an order of voluntary and sacrificial service within the Methodist Church,
During their year’s term, candidates are supplied with boarding and living expenses, but no fixed salary. There are several other young Methodist Church workers serving similar “apprenticeships” throughout New Zealand.
