NEW YORK, April 4.
A former boxer and an ex-wrestler were among a seven-man New York State committee appointed today to investigate boxing. The committee is made up of members of the New York State Assembly and Senate. It was established following the severe battering the Cuban boxer, Benny Paret, received on March 24 while defimding his world welterweight title against Emile Griffith.
Paret, aged 25. died in hospital yesterday, after lingering in a coma for nine days. The committee is to report to the 1963 session of the legislature, which opens next January.
It is to decide whether boxing should be outlawed in New York State, or whether the State’s boxing rules should be tightened. The inquiry is also to de' ide whether adequate
measures are being taken to prevent racketeers and gamblers from dominating professional boxing.
