LONDON, April 4
Trevor Bailey yesterday described the “attack-or-be-sacked” plan for more aggressive test cricket, announced by Mr R W V. R.obins. new chairman of England’s selectors, as “Utopian,” the “Daily Mail” reported.
Bailey said: “Mr Robin's .understandable wish for a cricketing Utopia is highly desirable."
But he added: “Cricket is a game of ebb and flow, and anyone who hopes to get non-stop excitement over five days in a test wants to take up another sport.
“Half the charm of the game lies in periods of intense excitement followed by some calm.
“If we lost all five tests in Australia next winter, the gates would suffer considerably—Australians do not appreciate a side being thoroughly outplayed.”
