Christchurch Customs
Revenue collected by the Customs Department in Christchurch in the year to March 31 was £10.948,500. This was £510.146 or 4,5 per cent, less than in the year before.
Petrol tax and tyres showed the biggest drop in revenue. Petrol tax totalled £1.530.289. a drop of £596.064, but this tax is now collected in Wellington instead of being collected locally. Tyre tax revenue dropped from £7622 the year before to £5211.
However, revenue from sales tax, light dues and miscellaneous all showed increases. Sales tax rose 7 per cent, to £2,556.295, light dues 22 per cent, to £19.370 and miscellaneous revenue 45 per eent. to £34,140.
