PRODUCTION OF MOQUETTE

New Hastings Venture

HASTINGS. April 4.

A New Zealand-owned company, Fabric Weavers. Ltd., to be registered this week, will establish New Zealand's first moquette manufacturing industry in Hastings and expects to begin operations by the end of August.

The company will begin manufacturing with four looms which will be increased in stages to 16. At tliat stage it will be in a position to produce approximately half New Zealand's present requirements of moquette. Plant and skilled workers are being brought from the United kingdom, but about three-quarters of the staff will be recruited and trained locally. About 60 per cent, of New Zealand’s present imports of moquette comes from Belgium and 30 per cent, from the United Kingdom.
