BRIEF POWER FAILURE
Transmission Line Fault
A four-minute power cutout caused by a fault somewhere on the transmission line from Roxburgh to Islington yesterday briefly left Christchurch without electricity just after noon. The district electrical engineer for the New Zealand Electricity Department (Mr R. S. S. Meredith) said last evening that the location or cause of the fault was not then known and calculations were still being made to fix ,the likely point of the interference. The line cut out at 12.08 p.m. and the Lake Coleridge and Cobb river generators which then carried the load were also cut out. The system control was able to issue instructions for the resumption of supply almost immediately. The Papanui and Bromley sub-stations were switched in before 12.12 p.m. The Municipal Electricity Department began the progressive restoration of its load to these, and and at 12.23 p.m. to the Addington substation.
