NEW SCHOOL AT HORNBY
Interim Committee Elected
Householders of Hornby South last evening elected the following interim committee for the new primary school which will open in the district next term: Messrs J Matheson (chairman). C W Pullman 'secretary). Mesdames W Lucas. R Mills, E Kerslake. Messrs G Eddy. I. Fazackerley, P. L. Minchington. and J G Sparks The school will be known as Hornby South in the meantime, but the interim committee is entitled to suggest another name to the Canterbury Education Board The new school in Shand l road, a few hundred yards south-east of the Main South road railway crossing, will have eight classrooms, of which four will be occupied when it opens Not far from this localityare the Hornby School, of jl7 classrooms; the Gilberthorpe School, of 16 classI rooms: and the Sockburn School, of 15 classrooms [There are seven prefabricated units at the Hornby School, [and it is intended to remove three of these when the new school opens. It is expected that the new I school will have about 150 pupils at the outset including a good number now attending existing schools.
