OBJECTIONS TO BOARDS

Farmers Meet Minister

(N.Z. Pr£*» association)

NEW PLYMOUTH, April 5.

Taranaki farmers informed the Minister of Agriculture (Mr Taiboys) in no uncertain terms at Eltham today that they objected to the formation of rabbit boards in the province.

Lasting one hour and a half, the meeting was quiet and orderly—a complete contrast to most of the 10 meetings held last year when members of the Rabbit Destruction Council visited Taranaki. The meeting was attended by about 50 representatives of Federated Farmers and local bodies.

Speakers conveyed the feelings of the people they represented in a manner which left no doubt that they were against rabbit boards.

Mr Taiboys, in reply, gave no definite decision, but spoke in favourable terms of the work done by boards in other areas, particularly in Central Otago. He said he was concerned that opossum was a greater danger than the rabbit. He said he had some appreciation of the Taranaki problem and would give it his full consideration.
