Women’s Bowls Champion Of Champions Fours Tourney Begins

Womens Bowling Centre began on tile Morrison avenue green yesterday. Twenty-eight clubs were represented, but at the end of three rounds the number was reduced to four. The semifinals and final will be played today. Play dragged on till dusk.
Most of the games in the early rounds were fairly evenly contested. In the third round, Rakaia had every chance of winning its game against Sydenham, but lapses over the concluding heads robbed it of victory. Sydenham led 10-5 on the sixth head, but Rakaia rallied to lead 16-12 on the fifteenth. Sydenham then went away to lead 19-16 on the eighteen h. A single to Rakaia left it one behind with two headleft to play. Sydenham took a single on the next and on
the last were holding three shots when the Rakaia skip had her last bowl to play. She tried to draw but failed and Sydenham won 23-18. Lincoln could make no game of rt against Richmond and lost 33-13. Opawa was trounced by Shirley. On the fifth head the score was 6-6. but Shirley won, 37-8, with three heads left unplayed.
St. Albans led Redcliffs 11-0 on the third head and 25-9 by the fifteenth. Redcliffs still had a chance of pulling the game out of the fine with four heads left to play, but on the next St. Albans scored a four and the game ended with St. Albans winning 29-15 with Hirer heads left unplayed.
