Chess Walpole In Lead
L. J. Walpole assumed a commanding position this week In the Canterbury Chess Club's annual tournament by beating the solid J. A. Hunter and the resourceful A. J. Nyman. He now has four wins in as many games. The only other unbeaten player in the senior competition Is M. W. Taylor, with three wins.
A feature of the Intermediatejunior tournament has been the great improvement shown by R. Burns, who has won all three of his games to date. A. L. Wilkinson, with two wins in two games, is the only other unbeaten player in this grade. This week's results were:— Senior—L. J. Walpole 1, J. A. Hunter 0: A. J. Nyman 0, Walpole 1; M. W. Taylor 1, O. C. Chandler 0: R. N. Weir 0, R. M. Broadbent 1.
