CARPET WOOL FOR U.S.
N.Z. Principal Supplier New Zealand was the principal supplier of carpet wool to the United States in 1961. exporting 52.2 million pounds to America. Argentina was the second largest supplier, exporting 47 6 million pounds to the United States. The amount New Zealand sent to the United States represented one-third of United States carpet wool supplies for 1961, according to a newsletter from the United States Embassy in Wellington.
U.S. Imports More Meat
Americans ate about 900 million pounds of imported meat during 1961, most of it lean beef. That was about 20 per cent more than in 1960. Most of the imported meat was sold for processing into such items as •‘hamburgers.” according to the Unitel States Embassy, Wellington.
David Jones.— Directors of David Jones. Ltd., report a satisfactory result for the halfyear ended January 31. Turnover was affected to some extent by the prevailing economic conditions and rebuilding of the Adelaide store, they say. Interim dividend is again 61 per cent on ordinary and employee stock. Full rate has been 1211 per cent, since 19*59.
