Oral Vaccine From Canada
AUCKLAND, Mar. 21. All the Sabin oral polioj myelitis vaccine for the cur- | rent campaign to immunise 789.000 children in New Zea- [ land is expected to arrive at ! Whenuapai next week. ! The 800,000 doses, which is i the complete production order for New Zealand, has been tested and passed and is now being packed by the manufacturers, Connaught Laboratories, of Toronto. Ttie Health Department is awaiting cabled advice from Toronto ot the dispatch of the consignment.

The vaccine will be packed in bottles in cardboard cartons, with 22,000 doses in each carton. The whole consignment will be taken to Wellington for distribution to district health officers. Each bottle will be provided with a dropper, rather like an eye-dropper, for measuring out tire doses. For giving the doses, an Auckland firm has manufactured a million and a half paper cups, and about 20,000 gallons of distilled water will
be required for mixing with the vaccine. Dr. D. P. Kennedy, director of the Public Hygiene Division of the Health Department, said in Wellington today that 4000 letters were being sent to all medical practitioners to advise them of the campaign. At a later date the extension of the oral programme to other age groups would be considered by the epidemiological advisory committee of the Board of Health.
