WAITAKI SEAT
402 Majority For National ( N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN, March 21. The National Party has retained the Wartaki seat with a majority of 402 votes In the official count, which was completed tonight, Mr A D. Dick increased bis provisional majority of 320 by 82 The majority for National at the 1960 General Election was 1972 votes. In the bv-elect!on held on March 10. Mr Dick received 6359 votes. Sir Basil Arthur (Labour) 5957, and Mr A. W Barwood (Social Credit) 1664 Of the special votes. Mr Dick received 621, Sir Basil Arthur 533. and Mr Barwood 93. A total of 347 special votes and one overseas special vote were disallowed because the electors were not qualified or their declarations were not in order. A total of 1268 special votes was allowed. For the by-election 17,978 electors were on the roll and votes cast totalled 14.022—a 78 per cent, poll.
