INJURED JOCKEY
Mix-up At End Of Race (N Z Press Association i AUCKLAND, March 18. A jockey, R G. Forbes, was badly injured and the winning horse, Prince Nomad, dir .ualified for the race after there had been a scrimmage just short of the post in the St. Patrick’s Handicap at Paeroa yesterday. Forbes, who was unseated from his mount, Descabella, and thrown over the inside running rail, suffered facial and severe head injuries. The Thames Hospital Reported his condition last night as fair.
Prince Nomad finished first by half a length from Po<’s Pride and Dainty Girl Was third and Relight fourth. After an inquiry into alleged interference by Prince Nomad to Poet’s Pride and Descabella, the judicial committee disqualified Prince Nomad, making the placing Poet’s Pride 1, Dainty Girl 2, Relight 3.
At a further inquiry, D. A. Raklander, the rider of Prince Nomad, was suspended up to and including June 16 for careless riding. Raklander had been charged with causing interference to Poet’s Pride and Descabella.. Except for the dividend on Dainty Girl, no payout was made on the St Patrick’s Handicap, which was the seventh race and second leg of the T.A.B. double, until nearly 5 p.m. Nevertheless, a fair crowd of bettors waited on the course tor the result of the inquiry and the totalisator manager. Mr J. H. Waiters estimated that after 5 pm’ between £6OOO and £7OOO was paid out in win and place and doubles dividends
