Soccer NOMADS INCREASE LEAD IN INDOOR GAMES

A large crowd at Cowles Stadium last evening saw the leaders of the indoor football competition. Nomads, beat the second-placed team, Technical Old Boys. 8-0. Technical Old Boys did not field their strongest team, as seven players were taking part in the coaching course, but this does not detract from Nomads' victory: they played superbly. All five members scored. S. McCallum was the main contributor, with three good goals. McCallum. P. RennelL and A. van Rooyen, are the most experienced and astute attacking force of any club in the competition. In the absence of McCallum, van Rooyen, and P. Simmonds, Nomads were extended to beat Western, 4-3, two penalty goals being scored by Rennell. Western also scored from a penalty. Neerlandia met Shamrock in an even match, marred by incessant high kicking. Ouwerkirk and Ramsbottom were the most versatile Neerlandia players, and Price and Eastgate played soundly for Shamrock. Two fine goals were scored by Ouwerkirk in Neerlandia's 4-2 win.

Outstanding in the match between Rangers and New Brighton was N. Robinson's goal shooting for Rangers. His five goals were cleverly scored, two in particular being fine solo efforts. Rangers’ win. 7-2, was well deserved. Wigram's speed and tenacity failed to match Christchurch City’s astute combination, the score of 7-2 being a fair indication of the trend of play. Western and High School Old Boys were evenly matched. Western winning. 4-3. Western played excellently, keeping the ball on the ground and passing intelligently. The meet impressive players were A. BiAop

and D. Glass for Western, and P. Kay was the most energetic player for Old Boys.

Christchurch City scored its second convincing win of the evening when it beat New Brighton. 7-1. Technical Old Boys suffered their second defeat of the evening when an inspired Rangers' team won 3-2. The result was in doubt until the final whistle, but never did Technical Old Boys play the football of which they are capable. W. Logan was again sound, and was ably assisted by G. Jones. W. Anderson and P. Cole again played cleverly for Rangers. Three goals down at halftime, Wigram snproved considerably against Shamrock, but was beaten, 5-3. In the final game of the evening. High School Old Boys and Neerlandia, both level in the competition, played an even match, Neerlandia scoring in the final minutes to win, 2-1.
