As a result of the Monza disaster, an Italian legal firm is trying to have the British driver, J. Clark convicted of manslaughter by imprudence and made responsible for all the deaths. If this move succeeds, Clark will also be held liable for all compensation claims. ¥ ¥ ¥
Several Canterbury drivers have gone to the North Island to take part in the Wellington Festival Rally, which will start this evening. The entrants are: T. D. Craig and W. Cheesman (Mini-Minor), M. A. White-Johnston and Mrs White-Johnston and R. D. Murgatroyd (Citroen ID 19), G. B. S. Grey, of Oamaru (Singer Gazelle), and J. G'. Wall, of Martiniborough (MiniMinor). The 500-mile event will take about 18 hours. All the above are RA.T.E.C. members. ¥ ¥ ¥
The builders ot the Scarab, the only real United States challenge in European racing, have announced they are to close. ¥ ¥ ¥
B.M.C. has entered three M.G.A. coupes for the Sebring 12-hour race on March 23. ¥ ¥ ¥
"I will not drive a foreign car even though it is frustrating and disheartening to know that if I did I could be world champion,” Stirling Moss is reported as having said to a special writer in London. “But I no longer care about being world champion. I believe I am a better and faster driver because I am not.” ¥ ¥ ¥
At least four Austin Healeys will be seen at Sebring. one probably being driven by Stirling Moss in the three-hour event. ¥ ¥ ¥
Late reports say G. Hoare's dragster, which will be taking part in tomorrow's standing start kilometre runs at Ashburton, recently broke the record unofficially with a run of 24.25ec at Invercargill It therefore appears even more likely that the record will fall tomorrow. Late entries for the event include W. Darrell (ACE 111 Zephyr), N. Stuart, B. 1 Andrews (Mini-Minor), and S. D. Candy (4200 c.c. Healey Corvette).
Sunday afternoon trials will be held by the Canterbury Car Club on April 8 and May 6. ¥ ¥ ¥
Taking part in the Safari Rally will be some Australian entries: several Ford Falcons and probably at least one Holden. The Falcons will be Australianmade cars. ¥ ¥ ¥
The Canterbury Car Club will hold a Thursday night trial starting from Motile street on March 15. ¥ ¥ ¥
The Rallies and Trials Enthusiasts’ Club will hold their autumn rally on March 24, starting at 4 p.m. The rally will be over a distance of 240 miles and will last about nine hours. The Autumn rose bowl will be awarded to the winner and cash awards will be made to the first tnree place-getters. Entries will close on March 15. ¥ ¥ ¥
The Syracuse Grand Prix, originally scheduled to take place on March 19, has been cancelled because all dates on which it was possible to hold the event clashed with other meetings.
¥ ¥ ¥ The Canterbury Car Club’s North Canterbury trial, originally scheduled for March 11, has been postponed and will be run either in June or July. It has been decided to postpone the event as there iias not been time to map out a meeting which the organisers feel would be of a sufficiently high standard.
