Smart Run At Awapuni "The Press" Special Service PALMERSTON NORTH. March 8. The Trentham candidates. Outcome. Starborough, and Ma Cherie. all ran pleasing gallops over some ground at Awapuni today, when final trials were held in perfect conditions. Outcome shaded Summer Glory at the end of a fast six furlongs, and Starborough went slightly better time over the same distance. Ma Cherie was most pleasing over a mile on the plough, beating Resemblance. The Plunket Nursery candidates. Noranda. Damseile, and Orokawa. aU ran smart half-miles and others to impress included Nortawestem. Oceana, Green Rose. Elrey. Red Trap. For Free, Gallant Lady, Shalott, and Bagush On toe No. J grass, which was fast after light rain during the night. Outcome (Hulme) beat Summer Glory (O'Neill) by a length over six furlongs in Imin 16 3-6 sec, the last three in 37sec. It was a fine trial by Outcome, which has pleased enough this week to warrant a food chance in the North Island Challenge Stakes. Starbonouito (Hulme) went brilliantly over six furlongs in Imin 15 2-ssec. the last three in 38sec. It was a rousing trial for the Thompson Handicap, but if the track is at all soft on Saturday he will recede from favour. He has to have firm ground. Damseile (Miss Lee) was shading Orokawa (Taylor), although there was little in it after galloping half a mile in 50sec. the last three in 37sec. Damseile will be ridden by L. K. Tinsley In the Plunket Nursery, and she will be the one to beat. Silver Pelt (Stoodley) strode over five furlongs in Imin ssec. the Last three in 39sec. He appreciated toe slight easing of the ground. On the plough. Ma Cherie (Taylor) worked in her best style to beat Resemblance (Lewis) at the end of a mile in Imin 47 2-ssec, the last three in 40 3-ssec. Ma Cherie has not worked better for a long time and. being a two-mile winner, she could be ready for an improved race in the Autumn Handicap. Bagush (Foster) and Ups and Downs (Mahoney) completed seven furlongs in Imin 34sec, the last three in 41eec, with both working well. Bagush looks a good prospect for Trentoam.

Wenona Girl gave another dazzling display of speed at Flemington today in her final workout for the Newmarket Handicap (six furlongs) at Flemington on Saturday Bookmakers had no hesitation in further cutting Wenona Girl's price for the Newmarket, for which she is a solid favourite. Veteran track watchers at Flemington today said it would take an outstanding sprinting effort to beet Wenona Girl in the Newmarket. Dalmain Swab Positive tN.Z Press Association i WELLINGTON, March 7. Dalmain, one of the prepost favourites for the mile Taleri Hack Handicap at the Otago Hunt Club's meeting at Wingatui on Saturday, will not start in the race. The trainer, W. J. Hewitt, of Wingatui, had been informed that the analyst had submitted a positive report after a aaliva test of Dalmain taken at Gore on February 10. the secretary of the New Zealand Racing Conference (Mr A. M. McBeath) aaid today.
