DOCTOR DIES OF SMALLPOX
No Time For Vaccination (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) LONDON, March 8. A doctor who had been unable to find a convenient time to attend vaccination sessions, has died from smallpox, the “Daily Mirror" reported. And last night, two more people in the Welsh area where he worked were found to have the disease, said the newspaper. This made a total of eight smallpox victims in hospital in the Rhondda and Llantrisant areas of South Wales. The “Daily Mirror” said that the doctor. Dr. Robert Hodkinson, aged 58, a consultant gynaecologist at two hospitals in the infected area, was taken ill after attending a post-mortem on Mrs Margaret Mansfield, aged 23, who died at East Glamorgan on February 9.
Mrs Mansfield died after childbirth, but is now believed to have had smallpox
Dr. Hodkinson could not find time for vaccination because he was too busy visiting his patients, said the newspaper.
