100-YEARS-OLD ON SATURDAY

Otahuhu Woman Keen Gardener (K Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. March 7. Ninety-nine-year-old Mrs Alice Hyland is very busy in the garden at her home in Otahuhu this week. She wants to have the place completely free of weeds for her hundredth birthday on Saturday. Mrs Hyland is in possession of all her faculties, although rather deaf. She said today she had always worked hard and kept herself occupied. She is a keen reader and makes all her own clothes. Mrs Gladys Hyland, her daughter-in-law with whom she lives, said: "She has a marvellous appetite and has only been to hospital to have her five children.”
