Return Visit With Soldier-Husband
The wife of the recentlyappointed Commander-in-Chief of the Far East Land Forces (Lieutenant-General Sir Nigel Poett) is a New Zealander. Lady Poett, who originally came from Hawke’s Bay, met her husband when she was on holiday in England. They were married in New Zealand, but Lady Poett has been away, apart from three short visits, for 25 years. Sir Nigel Poett is in New Zealand on Army business, accompanied by Lady Poett. "We have lived in Greece, Egypt, and England, and are now stationed in Singapore for the second time,’’ she said yesterday.
She said she liked travelling. and led a very full life, indulging her hobbies of gardening. golf and tennis, and participating in the activities of servicemen’s wives’ clubs. She also entertained a great deal.
Sir Nigel and Lady Poett have three children. Their elder son. Simon, aged 21, is in his father's old regiment, the Durham Light Infantry, and is stationed in Berlin. The younger son, Brian, aged 17. is at school in Somerset, and also intends to join the Army. Their daughter, Mrs P. Sebag-Montefiore. lives in Essex and has a son aged nine months.
