REVOLVER GIVEN TO POLICE

Firearms 'Amnesty A .45 revolver, from which the firing pin and hammer had been removed, and an Italian flare pistol have been taken to the arms office at the Central Police Station in response to the firearms amnesty. The revolver belonged to a man who died in 1943. It had lain among some of his belongings, and was handed in by his son. There is an amnesty on unregistered firearms for two months. The amnesty provides that no prosecutions will be . made under the Arms Act or regulations dealing with the importing, procuring, possession, or transfer of unregistered firearms. The amnesty will expire at the end of April. The main purpose of the amnesty is to have all firearms in New Zealand registered. The police also want to obtain possession of all illegal firearms.
