£l000 FOR CHOIR

Grant To Visit Adelaide (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 6. A grant of £lOOO to help the Royal Christchurch Musical Society to take part in the Festival of the Arts at Adelaide later this month was announced today by the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr Gotz). The Minister said the festival was one of the biggest cultural events of the year in Australia and attracted concert stars and celebrities from throughout the world including the London Philharmonic Orchestra under Sir Malcolm Sargent. The Christchurch choir would have the distinction of singing with the famous orchestra and conductor. Mr Gotz said he understood from his colleague, the Minister of ■’’inance (Mr Lake) that the Christchurch choir was particularly fine and would be the first to participate in such a festival overseas.
